Appearance – Rustic, looks like the pies you’re grandma used to make (if she didn’t you missed out!). The slight overspill of mincemeat adds to this effect.
Mince to Pastry ratio – Medium – two reasonable layers of pastry but still plenty of filling between them.
Mouthfeel – Crisp buttery pastry and chunky filling add up to a joy for the mouth.
Flavour – Tangy filling and lush buttery pastry (said in the style of Stacey). The added sweetness of the sugar on top is a bonus.
Summary – Don’t let the cheap price and no frills appearance put you off. Consistently one of the best pies each year.
Overall Rating – 4 Santas
