Appearance – Inconsistent colouring throughout the box (which also get a special mention) and a couple had splurged their filling everywhere. More oval than round with a heavy dusting of sugar (like it needed more!).
Mince to Pastry ratio – Good 🙂 The pastry is reasonably thick, but still in an acceptable range. The filling is not right to the top, but there is a very good quantity in here.
Mouthfeel – Nice crisp pastry and a satisfying chunky filling – a nice all round experience.
Flavour – Sweet – they live up to their billing that’s for sure! There is still a pleasant flavour under the sweetness though.
Summary – A definite improvement from Greggs this year. If they could work on the appearance and reduce the sweetness (or offer another less sweet option?) it could be a high scoring pie. However the Sausage Roll buying Greggs regulars just need their sugar hit – as a wise man once said ‘It’s really moreish!’
Overall Rating – 2 Santas
