Costa Mince Pie (2019)

Appearance – It’s a pretty pie if a tad unevenly in shape. The sugar dusting and stat cutout look appetising.

Mince to Pastry ratio – No air gap issues here with the mince spilling out of the star. No air gap issues and the mince is spilling out of the star. However once you get into it, you realise how thin the mincemeat layer is. Pastry being thinner would help

Mouthfeel – Pastry is dry yet crispy. Filling is full of chunky fruit that give a lovely ‘squish’ when you bite into it.

Flavour – Pastry is crispy and delicious. Lovely fruity flavour to the filling, but another pie where I just wish there was more of the mincemeat!

Summary – Visually very good and a really nice flavour to the components. It is let down by the quantities being mismatched. More filling and less pasty and you have a much stronger contender. B-
