Appearance – Random distribution of icing sugar, but makes a change to see the use of ‘Noel’ on the top. Chocolate pastry also gives the pie a distinctive look.

Mince to Pastry ratio – Minimal air gap and a good deep filling – Tick. Cherries and lumps of chocolate – Tick. Mincemeat content – a little low as a result.

Mouthfeel – Pastry is a little dry and very crumbly – be prepared to ‘Do a Gerry’ aka making an unnecessarily large amount of mess. Things improve with the filling due to the juicy cherries and surprising lumps of chocolate.

Flavour – Chocolatey pastry a really nice change, can even forgive the dry crumbly nature. The filling it dominated by the cherry though, with the mincemeat only being a side note.

Summary – Not so much a ‘Mince Pie’, more a very tasty pie with Mince in it. Cherry and Chocolate are a great combo according to my taste buds so not really a complaint. However, it does mean that the Mince Pie label is really just a Christmas gimmick.
